Schools in Western Australia and several regions in Japan paired up to exchange digital stories to help students in their middle years get to know each other and learn about each other's language and culture. Each pair of schools decided for themselves what schedules they would keep and what tools they would employ to create and share their digital books. As with any exchange program between two countries, there were logistical issues to overcome such as differences in school holiday dates, school timetables, and levels of language knowledge.
